Exploring the letter “O” in songs can involve lots of moving, a few animals, and maybe a little searching in the middle of words. Here are a few ideas taken from a recent library session.
Explore “on” and “over”
Props: a scarf for each participant
Tune: “The Farmer in the Dell”
The scarf is on my arm. The scarf is on my arm. Hi, hoe, the derry-oh the scarf is on my arm.
The scarf is over my head. The scarf is over my head. Hi, hoe, the derry-oh the scarf is over my head.
Add other verses. You can include actions such as hopping over the scarf.
Classic “O” Songs
Partner Songs
“The Little Brown Owl” is modified from a share on No Time for Flashcards. Rather than have the “owls go la-di-da”, we had the them “dance hooty- hooty-hoot.”
“Octopus Stew” is a fun Pinterest find. Depending on your group, you could insert other “o” items into the song.
