One May Day tradition is the secret delivery of flowers. This posts delivers some flower songs older adults may recognize. You can further extend the music by checking out last year’s post.
Why not start with some moving to a song they likely recognize but do not sing: “Roof Garden“? Another option would be “Orange Blossom Special“.
Here are some songs for singing.
- Carolina in the Morning
- I Never Promised You a Rose Garden
- Delta Dawn
- Edelweiss
- My Wild Irish Rose
- Red Roses for a Blue Lady
- Sweet Violets
- When You Wore a Tulip
- Hi-Lily, Hi-Lo
Looking for more songs? Visit Green Book of Songs – a great resource I like to use. For those wishing to further extend the activity, you can create a list of various kinds of flowers. There are many resources on the internet. Here is a link to one.

I love the song “Kiss from a Rose”… I think it’s one of the best song we can listen. Thanks for your list here Jo Anne.
It is a nice song though not one I imagine many in the 65+ age range would remember.
One of the flower activities I did last month (’cause Spring sprung in March here!) was to replace “rose” in Wild Irish Rose with whatever spring flower the group could think of. We sang to my wild Irish dandelion, tulip, daffodil, and snapdragon! Made for lots of laughs.
What a fun idea! I’ll have to use that one.
