Growing up, my family loved animals. We had multiple dogs, a cat, fish, gerbils, chickens, turtles, rabbits, and a paraket. That is in addition to all of us crazy kids. It will come as no surprise to some, my mother’s favorite saint was St. Francis of Assisi. October 4th is his feast day. So I thought I’d share my favorite animal songs to help you celebrate the day.

Children will enjoy singing:

Older Adults will enjoy:

  • Hound Dog
  • Blue Bird of Happiness
  • Let’s All Sing Like the Birdies Sing
  • Rockin’ Robin
  • Mac the Knife
  • Joy to the World/Jeremiah was a Bull Frog
  • Octopus’s Garden

An intergenerational group will enjoy:

In addition to singing these songs, it would be great to have “name that animal sound”. There are great recordings available for purchase and some sounds on line.  Having images of the animals or a list of animals to select from can be helpful with this activity.

The list seems endless for animal songs. Please share your favorites in the comments below!
