5 things to sing about this September“…Don`t worry that it`s not good enough,For anyone else to hear, Sing, sing a song.” – Joe Raposa

Singing comes easy for me. As a child, I filled many moments with song. Singing is a big part of my music therapy practice.

While you don’t need a reason to sing, here are 5 things you’ll want to sing about this September.

#1.  No Rhyme or Reason Day (Sept. 1st)

This is a day set aside for creativity. Use it an excuse to rewrite lyrics, create a tune, or hold a drum circle. While not do a little creative moving to this George Duke tune.

#2. Read a book day (Sept. 6th)

Reading is a wonderful leisure activity to share. And there are many ways to add music. Here’s just one example of a song inspired by a book.

#3. Wonderful Weirdo’s Day (Sept. 9th)

This day was created to celebrate the uniqueness we all have. Host a talent show. Sing songs that celebrate individuality including “I’ve Never Seen Anything Like It’ from Dr. Doolittle and “Personality”.

#4.  National Thank You Day (Sept. 15)

While saying “thank you” is associated with Thanksgiving, this is a wonderful day to share this act of kindness. A wonderful book and song for all ages is “Grateful”.

#5. National Neighborhood Day (3rd Sunday in September)

Building relationships with neighbors creates a stronger community. Gather with some of your neighbors and sing!
