Winter SongsforPreschoolersWinter is a magical place when you are a child. Exploring it with songs, movement and singable books is a lot of fun. Here are a few ideas for your next winter themed gathering with preschoolers.

Winter songs to sing

The Winter Song (tune: Farmer in the Dell) – This song is found on many websites. We did the first verse two times, the second verse and returned to the first verse.

1. Let’s sing a winter song,

Let’s sing a winter song,

The days are short, the nights are long.

Let’s sing a winter song.

2. The winter wind is cold,

The winter wind is cold,

It freezes noses, ears, and toes.

The winter wind is cold.

I’m a little Snow Man (Sung to: “I’m a Little Teapot”) This song is also found on multiple sites. We acted out the verse and had a lot of fun melting.

I’m a little snowman short and fat.
Here are my buttons, here is my hat.
When the sun comes out, I cannot play.
I just slowly melt away!

Winter songs for moving

Snowman Pokey (aka – Hokey Pokey)

Each child had a plate with a snowman on it. We had a lot of fun moving our snowman all around. Be inventive. Let the children share ideas.

The Mitten song – (Sung to the verse part of Looby Loo”) Each child had the outline of a mitten upon which to place their hand while singing.

The thumb in the thumb place, the fingers all together. This is the song we sing in winter weather.

Skating on paper plates

Provide two paper places and skate to music.

Singable winter books

We enjoyed two singable books in our session:
