Father’s Day is more than giving a card and a razor, after shave, a tie, a watch or a tool. For me it is a time to cement connections with the important men in my life. This year celebrate Father’s Day with a customized song.
“Best Friend” Inspiration
As a child of the 60’s one of my favorite TV series was The Courtship of Eddie’s Father. The theme song “Best Friend” is by Harry Nilsson.
Here is an option for customizing it:
People let me tell you about my father/grandfather/uncle/a special man.
He’s a ____ (insert about 11 syllables)
People let me tell you about (same as 1st line or insert their name)
He’s a ____ (insert about 13 syllables)
People let me tell you ’bout him he’s ______ (a characteristic)
Whether we’re talking face to face or talking on the phone.
Cause he’s my _____ (insert relationship). Yes he’s my ____ (repeat relationship).
“Brady Bunch” Inspiration
In the early 1970’s, “The Brady Bunch” was a popular series.
Many parodies of this song have been made over the years. Here is an option for customizing it for Father’s Day.
Here’s the story of a man named _______ who was born in ____ (month) of _____ (year). He grew up in _____, ____ . (city, state) He liked to _______. (childhood hobby)
Here’s the story of a man named _______ who worked as a ______ (job) in _______ (place/company). He’s a big fan of ________ (type of music or a sports team). You’ll often ________ (fact about previous statement).
Well I’m so glad that this fellow is my ________ (relationship). He’s inspired me to ______ and to _____. Hurray for _____ (name), my ______ (relationship). I’m so glad I have you in my life.
In my life, in my life. I’m so glad you’re my ______ (relationship), _______ (name).
Now, go customize a song for Father’s Day. And it’s okay to buy the card and the gift, too.
Just had to share this fresh idea for a Father’s Day conversation. American Profile has an article on duct tape. In and of itself, it will make for a great conversation starter. Here are a couple song ideas. Lionel Richie’s “Stuck on You” or Kay Kyser’s “Friendship”. I’m sure there are many other great songs that would work so share them!
